ICG to launch fifth season of its award-winning Million Meals Campaign

Evolving Million Meals to strengthen foodbank infrastructure alongside direct food provision

ICG, the global alternative asset manager, today announced the fifth season of its successful “Million Meals” initiative.

Since its inception in 2022, Million Meals has provided nearly 5 million meals to people affected by food poverty and the cost-of-living crisis globally. To date, the campaign has provided over £2.3m of funding to partner charities around the world, in cities where ICG has major operations. Earlier this year, it was recognised at the 2026 Better Society Awards, winning the Major Project of the Year Award.

In its fifth year, the campaign will seek to deliver a further 2 million meals through a record level of funding for the initiative (£700,000). Alongside funding direct meal provision, the initiative will also invest in the critical infrastructure and data capabilities that help food distribution charities to operate effectively and strengthen their long-term impact. This includes funding to support:

  • Expanded refrigeration capacity at City Harvest London to respond to growing need across London.
  • The organisational development of Banque Alimentaire Luxembourg a.s.bl. to strengthen organisational capacity, management of growing volumes of surplus food and to support sustainable long-term growth.
  • The rollout of FEBA’s Unified Data Framework across its European network, enabling food banks across Europe to collect consistent, credible data, strengthen collaboration and demonstrate their impact more effectively.

During the fifth season, ICG will be renewing partnerships with seven organisations and adding new partnerships with Grassroots Grocery (New York) and Cook for Good (London):

Existing partnerships to be renewed

  • City Harvest London (London)
  • Felix (UK-wide)
  • City Harvest New York (New York)
  • Eat Up (Sydney)
  • European Food Banks Federation (FEBA – pan-European)
  • Food from the Heart (Singapore)
  • Feeding Hong Kong (Hong Kong)

New partnerships for Million Meals 5

  • Cook for Good (London)
  • Grassroots Grocery (New York)

Building on previous years, ICG will also be providing practical support to its partners by creating opportunities for its nearly 700 employees to volunteer. Last year, nearly 30% of all ICG employees volunteered with a Million Meals partner.

The ICG Million Meals initiative reflects the firm’s purpose and values, and its commitment to reducing inequality across a range of social needs.

Antje Hensel-Roth, Chief People & External Affairs Officer at ICG, commented:

We are delighted to continue our successful Million Meals campaign for a fifth consecutive year, with an ambitious target of supporting the delivery of two million meals. This year, we are building on the campaign by investing not only in food provision, but also in the infrastructure and data capabilities that can help food banks operate more effectively and strengthen their long-term impact. The campaign continues to provide much-needed support to people experiencing food insecurity, while giving our colleagues the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the communities where we live and work. This multi-faceted commitment to supporting our partners reflects ICG’s values and culture, and our ongoing commitment to creating lasting positive impact through our social investment programme.

About City Harvest London

City Harvest addresses the issues of food poverty and food waste across London. Established in 2014, the charity rescues nutritious surplus food from food manufacturers, suppliers, producers and retailers, and delivers it, for free, to a network of over 350 community partners across London feeding people facing food poverty.

Every week, the charity rescues over 120 tonnes of surplus food from the food industry. They sort and package it in their Acton warehouse and two satellite market sites, and their vans distribute the food to City Harvest’s network of community partners across 30 London boroughs. These partners include homeless shelters, food banks, domestic abuse refuges, children’s programmes such as breakfast clubs and after-school clubs, youth hostels, centres for the elderly, and more.

Through their community partners, City Harvest’s food reaches c133,000 people in need per week, including children and young people, elderly people, families, people on low incomes, homeless people, refugees, and those facing mental health or substance abuse issues.

Operating six days a week, City Harvest provides 1.2 million meals per month to Londoners in need.

About City Harvest NY

City Harvest is New York City’s first and largest food rescue organization—nourishing people, strengthening communities, and protecting the planet. We rescue nutritious, high-quality food that would otherwise go to waste and deliver it for free to hundreds of food pantries, soup kitchens, community partners, and our own Mobile Markets® across the five boroughs.

In response to the urgent and high demand for food assistance and our commitment to sustainability, this year we will rescue 100 million pounds of food and deliver it to New Yorkers experiencing food insecurity. With deep connections to the communities where we work and with a focus on localized investment, City Harvest strengthens our agency partners and the local food system through capacity building, advocacy, and nutrition education. Through our food rescue model, we support environmental health by preventing millions of kilograms of CO2 from entering the atmosphere while providing New Yorkers with the food they need to thrive. Named one of America’s Top 100 Charities by Forbes and recognized as a leading equity-driven organization, City Harvest has provided more than one billion pounds of food to our neighbors in need since our founding in 1982.

About Cook for Good

Cook for Good is a social enterprise based on a housing estate in Kings Cross. Established in 2019, we are working to tackle food insecurity, health inequality, social isolation and barriers to work, through a programme which includes free cooking classes, community meals, training and work experience, and a surplus food pantry.  We also run an annual six-month programme, Cook for Change, which teaches food-based community leaders and entrepreneurs how to create and develop their own sustainable social enterprises. The programme is largely funded by the profits from our cooking-based teambuilding events, which see corporate groups coming in to cook meals to share with the local community.
